The number of Bitcoin ATM machines (BATM) installed across the world crossed the 4,000 threshold, according to Coinatmradar.com.
Bitcoin ATMs are installed in 75 countries in the world. Two thirds of them are concentrated in North America. Out of a total of 4,159 BATMs worldwide, 2493 – or 55.9 percent – are in the United States, and 613 in Canada.
California has the most number of BATMs in the United States, 475, followed by Illinois with 252 BATMs.
Coin ATM Radar data shows their presence is steadily growing, not only in developed European countries, but in Latin America and Asia too.
According to it, there were only less than 2000 Bitcoin ATMs in the world in 2017. And their number more than doubled in two years.
The highest increase was recorded in the United States. From more than 800 Bitcoin ATMs in 2017, the number of BATMs installed in the country has currently risen to 2493. 45 out of 50 US states have at least one cryptocurrency ATM.
Continent-wise, Europe is in second position, with a share of 23.10 percent, or 958 BATMs. Crypto-friendly Austria leads in the number of BATMs, with 270.
The rest of the world together account for around 5 percent of the total BATMs.
107 crypto ATMs can be found in Asia, with the most in Hong Kong at 32.
Australia has 51 BATMs while only seven BATMs are operating in Africa.
Coin ATM Radar says despite the crypto market crash, more BATMs are coming up this year.
Besides Bitcoin, most of the machines support alternative coins such as BCH, litecoin (LTC), and ethereum (ETH).
Genesis Coin and General Bytes are the largest BATM manufacturers.
The majority of the world’s machines are one-way devices, meaning, they can only be used to buy cryptocurrencies, though markets seem to be seeking machines that allow users to sell.
The United States’ first Bitcoin ATM machine was installed in a casino in Las Vegas in 2013.
