Rob Gronkowski Sees His NFT Sold for $1.6 Million

NFTs are undeniably beginning to gain a foothold in the world of collectibles as they are being used to represent artworks, albums, sports highlights and so on.

The craze for non-fungible tokens (NFT) is not going to be stopping anytime soon as leading American football player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rob Gronkowski, has also entered into the fray. Over the weekend, NFT trading cards minted by the four-time Super Bowl champion Gronkowski were sold for a cumulative fee of 830 units of Ethereum which is approximately over $1.6 million – with the price being another indication of crypto enthusiasts’ thirst for these exclusive crypto cards.

Available information shows that the NFT collection contained five unique cards, and four of them were from one of his four Super Bowl appearances. Each of these cards celebrated his Super Bowl wins and also his career highlight. Interestingly, a total of 349 cards were sold, with 87 of them being an edition of each Super Bowl card while the highlight card combined all the images on the other four.

The auction held on the NFT marketplace for leading creators, OpenSea Drops, from Thursday till Saturday and its value was able to surpass another leading card from the weekend which is a first edition of the Super Bowl XLIX card that went for $80,000. Notably, the winner of the auction for the “highlight card” also gets to enjoy other perks like getting to meet the football superstar, get VIP all-access tickets for his “Gronk Beach” event, and also an on-stage DJ Booth experience.

NFTs are undeniably beginning to gain a foothold in the world of collectibles as they are being used to represent artworks, albums, sports highlights and so on. Already, NBA Top Shots is dominating the market and we have already witnessed the massive sales of digital artworks for record-breaking fees too.

Celebrities like Grimes, Lindsay Lohan, Beeple and other notable names have also made quite a fortune from the field. Beeple recently saw one of his digital artworks auctioned off on Christie $69.3 million which is one of the highest fees ever paid for an art piece made by a living artist.
