Krista Kim, the digital artist that is credited as the creator of the first Non-fungible Token built building dubbed Mars House has expressed her optimism about the potentials of Augmented and Artificial Realities to be a crucial part of our lives. Speaking to CNBC’s “Squawk Alley,” Kim said we all will soon be “living in an augmented reality lifestyle.”
As the creator of the iconic Mars House, Kim is part of the hoard of contemporary artists reshaping the public perception about NFTs and the technology that is powering them. While there is growing acclaim for these tokens represented as artworks, collectibles, and more, Kim said she is choosing to look beyond their current representation.
“Right now, a lot of the [NFT] art that’s currently available on platforms, it’s a very limited parameter of how you can present the art,” Kim said, adding. “It’s presented, basically, as a digital file, a beautiful drawing or video on your screen, but my intention was to look beyond that.”
Mars House sold for 288 Ether, valued at over $524,000 giving the current prices of the cryptocurrency at the time of writing according to CoinMarketCap. The work is part of Kim’s vision to depict the possibility of humans to live in a virtual world.
“For me, I actually foresee that we will be living in an augmented reality lifestyle within a very short period,” she said, predicting it could happen in “a couple years.”
NFTs are getting more publicly known as some pieces have been auctioned for mind-blowing prices. Coinspeaker earlier reported the sale of Mike Winkelmann’s “Everydays: The First 5,000 Days” which was sold for more than $69 million. The sale places the artist, also known as Beeple as one of the most valuable artists in the world by valuation, setting a new standard in the sizzling hot niche of NFTs based artworks.
Mars House Creator Sees NFTs Boosting AR and VR Development
While the proponents of NFT creations have used mind-blowing auction prices to announce the takeover agenda of Non-Fungible Tokens, some believe the ongoing boom is a bubble which may burst soon.
The Mars House creator however believes NFTs will play a more central role in aiding the development of augmented and virtual realities. Some tech giants are already pioneering the rollout of products in this regard with Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) rumored to be working on an augmented reality product.
“We’re all going to be decorating our environments and our personal space, our fashion,” she said. “Just like tattoos. People express themselves with tattoos. It’s an art form. Well, people are also going to express themselves with digital … assets and decorative pieces and collectibles, fashion, accessories.”
With more use cases for the new innovation yet to be explored, Kim remains amongst those who believe the NFT surge is here to stay.
