BlockFi’s Fire Sale Shows the Uber Startup Model Is Disastrous for Finance
Another reason the Thiel model simply makes no sense for retail finance is that it is structurally impossible to build the kind of “moat” that can, at the very least, keep a crappy business like Uber limping along. A huge element of finance, certainly for retail depositors but also more generally, is that you want your deposits to be as liquid as possible. To attract deposits in the first place, customers must be convinced it will be easy to withdraw … and potentially deposit their money elsewhere. This makes banking…

who’s hiring and who’s firing in the crypto space
Amid the recent volatility in the crypto market affecting investments and stock prices, many firms made significant staff cuts in the last month while others continued hiring. In June, major crypto exchange Gemini was among the first to reportedly cut 10% of its employees amid the bear market, saying conditions were “likely to persist for some time.” Coinbase and Crypto.com followed, announcing plans to reduce staff by 18% and 5%, respectively. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong also cited the so-called crypto winter as part of the reason for the cuts, but…
June gloom takes on a new meaning in another 2022 down month
The market cap of Bitcoin (BTC) dropped another 33% in June, which is now beginning to numb the Twitter community. On the upside, many crypto traders who wanted out did so fairly aggressively from March to May. But, the less optimistic news is that the stagnancy in address activity may need to change for prices to get a running start on recovery. Unlike April and May, the altcoin pack didn’t struggle tremendously more than Bitcoin. BTC’s 33% drop was pretty middle of the road in terms of corrections. In a…
New Bitcoin Record Paints Incredibly Bearish Picture As BTC Struggles At $19,000
Bitcoin has been setting new record trends with the bear market. This follows a bull market that had also deviated largely from its predecessors, so it comes as no surprise that the subsequent near market mirrored this behavior. Various new trends in bitcoin’s movement have cemented a bearish picture for the digital asset, and the latest in the line of records has only done more to cement this sentiment. Worse Quarterly Close In More Than A Decade Bitcoin has been in existence for about 13 years and in that time,…

Bear market? “So what,” says World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov
Garry Kasparov, the Russian chess grandmaster and chair of the Human Rights Foundation, doesn’t appear at all bothered by the current crypto bear market. Kasparov, who is also a long-time Bitcoin supporter, told Cointelegraph during Consensus 2022 “so what” in regards to his thoughts on the bear market. Kasparov added that he thinks 99% of all coins are “crap,” yet he expressed that both Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) are already integrated into traditional financial markets due to recent price fluctuations. He said: “They’ll lose a bit more, but they’ll…
