Apple is developing its new iMac line, which posits to be one of its most powerful computers on the market.
Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) appears set to launch a range of desktops and laptops, including a new iMac. The California-based consumer electronics giant also plans to release new updates for iOS and iPadOS amid a wave of executive departures. Other Apple developments include an antitrust headway and the abrupt closure of a store in North Carolina following shootings.
The new Apple iMac is reportedly in the advanced stages of development, known as engineering validation testing (EVT). In addition, the American tech giant is currently conducting production tests of the machine.
The upcoming iMac also sees the powerful computer line keep to the 24-inch screen size used by the current model. The all-in-one Mac desktop computers would also retain the same color palette as the current model. Colors available to users include blue, pink, silver, and orange.
Equipped with a new M-series chip that replaces the M1, the new iMacs will be more powerful than their immediate predecessors. In addition, Apple plans to relocate and redesign some of the internal components of the supercomputer. Meanwhile, the manufacturing process for attaching the iMac’s stand would also be different.
New Apple iMac to Likely Not Ship Until Second Half of 2023
Although development of the upcoming iMacs is at a late stage, the computers might enter mass production in another three months. This development also implies that the new iMacs would likely ship in the year’s second half. However, the overall positives emanating from the development process could tide customers over until the iMac’s mass production begins. Furthermore, the news regarding the computer’s capabilities should impress those disappointed in the lack of iMac line update in nearly two years.
The codenames of the iMacs in development are J433 and J434.
Apple also plans to roll out three new Macs alongside the new iMac between late spring and summer. The upcoming Mac models include the inaugural 15-inch MacBook Air and the first Mac Pro to use homegrown Apple chips.
Apple also intends to use its M3 chips in a revamped iPad Pro with OLED screens scheduled for the first half of 2024. Furthermore, the tech giant could introduce more exciting Mac upgrades as early as 2025. These include the first MacBooks to sport OLED screens and touch support.
Other Apple Developments
The European Union recently reduced the scope of its antitrust case against Apple, instead targeting rules that hampered developer activity. The Union looked into how the consumer electronics powerhouse prevented developers from enticing users outside the App Store. However, Apple counterargued the European Union’s query, saying:
“The App Store has helped Spotify become the top music streaming service across Europe, and we hope the European Commission will end its pursuit of a complaint that has no merit.”
Apple also abruptly shuttered a retail store last week at Charlotte’s Northlake Mall in North Carolina. The permanent closure happened after the mall’s third shooting in under three months.
