Bitcoin fell below $68,000 after wallets belonging to Mt. Gox transferred $9 billion worth of BTC to an unknown address early Asian morning. The transaction is possibly part of a plan to repay creditors by Oct. 31. BTC dropped as low as $67,680, a decline of over 1.5% in the last 24 hours, following the transfer having climbed above $70,000 on Monday. Hong Kong Will Inspect Offices of Crypto Platforms as Important Compliance Deadline Looms

By June 1, 2024, all crypto platforms providing trading services known as virtual asset trading platforms (VATPs) in Hong Kong must be either licensed by the SFC or “deemed-to-be-licensed,” which is a temporary arrangement during the process to get fully compliant. Beyond that deadline, it would be a “criminal offence to operate in Hong Kong” in breach of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism laws, the SFC said. Source

Almost everybody – all but 2% – had at least heard of bitcoin (BTC). A wide segment of voters claimed they’re also familiar with Ethereum’s ether (ETH), with less than half (46%) saying they’d never heard of it. About 17% of voters say they’ve invested in bitcoin, putting that asset nearly as high as those who say they have bonds, and significantly higher than those who invest in exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
