North Korean crypto hackers siphoned off nearly $400 million in crypto through cyber attacks in 2021 according to new data from Chainalysis. The type of crypto stolen has also seen a sea change according to the Jan. 13 report from the blockchain analytics firm. In 2017, BTC accounted for nearly all the crypto stolen by the DPRK, but it now accounts for just one fifth: “In 2021, only 20% of the stolen funds were Bitcoin, whereas 22% were either ERC-20 tokens or altcoins. And for the first time ever, Ether…

Ethereum futures and options data reflects traders’ mixed emotions on $3.2K ETH price
Ether (ETH) has been an emotional rollercoaster over the past three months primarily because its price rallied twice. First, it peaked at $4,870 on Nov. 10 and at $4,780 on Dec. 1. However, the double top was quickly followed by a harsh rejection, which led to $490 million in long futures contract liquidations in 48 hours. Once again, hope was instilled on Dec. 8 after Ether commenced to rally 28.5% in four days to retest the $4,400 support. Soon after, the downtrend continued, leading to the $2,900 bottom on Jan.…
BTC, ETH, BNB, SOL, ADA, XRP, LUNA, DOT, AVAX, DOGE
Bitcoin (BTC) and most major altcoins are stuck in a tight range with bulls buying near the support and bears selling at resistance levels. Usually, such tight ranges are followed by an expansion in volatility. Although a few analysts have not ruled out a quick drop to low $40,000s, most traders expect Bitcoin to rebound sharply and move up to $60,000. Goldman Sachs said in a note to investors that if Bitcoin continues to increase its market share over gold as a store of value and crosses the 50% mark,…
Exchange Supply of Ethereum (ETH) Drops 47% in 2 Years
Global adoption, institutional inflows, and the DeFi boom played a vital role in the substantial price jump of Ethereum. However, one factor which didn’t receive much attention is ETH’s exchange supply ratio. During the last 2 years, ETH whales shifted an enormous amount of Ethereum from digital trading platforms to cold crypto wallets. As a result, Ethereum’s exchange supply decreased by almost 47%. On the other hand, BTC also witnessed a substantial dip in its exchange supply. “Bitcoin’s and Ethereum’s respective exchange supplies indicate that the previous 2 years have…
BTC, ETH, BNB, AVAX, MATIC
Bitcoin (BTC) witnessed a roller coaster ride in 2021 and even though BTC has corrected sharply from its all-time high at $69,000, the digital asset is still up by 60% year-to-date. During the same period, gold has dropped more than 5%. With inflation soaring in the United States and several other parts of the world, Bitcoin’s outperformance over gold shows that investors may be considering it to be a better hedge against inflation when compared to gold. During the year, the total crypto market capitalization surged to about $3 trillion,…
Over 1 Billlion ETH Has Been Burned Since Ethereum EIP-1559
The Ethereum network has been burning ETH since the EIP-1559 first went into effect in early August. Since then, a portion of fees has been continuously burned, taking a large portion of the digital asset out of circulation. This hard fork had been implemented to combat the inflationary nature of Ethereum and it has been successful as countless blocks have been deflationary since the hard fork took place. ETH Burned Clocks 1 Billion The amount of ETH burned has risen along with fees on the network. Increased network usage had…
US Treasury blacklisted a non-existent ETH address in connection with alleged Russian election interference
Earlier today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury updated its Specially Designated Nationals List, adding several individuals and a number of cryptocurrency addresses. One of the individuals added was Artem Mikhaylovich Lifshits — a Russian national, accused of interfering in the U.S. elections. In addition to disclosing his personal information, the site lists a number of cryptocurrency addresses that he allegedly controls. ETH miner revenue reaching a new all-time-high may be bad news for low volume yield farmers
On September 2, the revenue of Ethereum (ETH) miners reached an all-time high of 51,541 ETH. While this may be good for the miners, it could turn popular DeFi projects into a mousetrap. When denominated in USD, these numbers are still below the record set on January 10, 2018 — when miners earned $32 million versus $23 million on September 2. The price of ETH at the time was approximately three times the current rate. However, what is…
Vitalik Buterin reveals why a 51% attack on ETH 2.0 ‘would not be fatal’
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has dismissed concerns that a 51% attack on Ethereum 2.0 would be ‘fatal’. The scenario emerged as a result of the burgeoning popularity of Yearn.finance’s yETH vault which has already amassed more than 137,000 ETH on its first day. Arcane Assets’ Chief Intelligence Officer Eric Wall suggested this mean the yETH vault admins will probably end up controlling enough Ether to theoretically launch an attack on Ethereum 2.0: ITT: We come up with fun ways yETH vault strategists can take advantage of the fact that yETH…
Analysts predict Yearn Finance’s ETH vault could spark renewed Ether bull run
Analysts predict that the imminent launch of yETH by Yearn Finance could trigger a renewed surge in buying pressure on the ETH markets. The product, which is being voted on by YFI token holders, will automatically find the highest yielding decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol/strategy for Ether (ETH) deposits. Yearn Finance’s core products are ‘vaults’ that seek the best returns for yield farmers, while also pooling funds to reduce gas fees. With Yearn’s vault purporting to guarantee the highest returns while removing the labor and research needed to maximize the profitability…
