In this episode, we tackle an exciting new project: the Martin Drift, an exploratory tunnel abandoned by miners over a century ago. This vein system is just 150 feet from the blacksmith shop, offering an amazing opportunity if it proves to be paying ore.

The Challenges Begin: Our first task is mucking out the 40-foot drift—a monumental mess of old rail, pipe, and waste. While clearing, we discover mineralized sulfides that get our hopes soaring! The vein is 3.5 feet wide, and the assays look promising.

The First Shot: We move the compressor down the treacherous hill, commit to our location, and set our holes. This is the first blast in the Martin Drift in well over 115 years! The result is a mix of success and chaos: a good break, but also a five-ton, loose slab of rock that threatens to shut us down.

Gold Discovery & The Mess: Watch the team’s incredible effort battling the massive slab (which requires a heroic, risky effort to bring down) and clearing the mess to repair the damaged track. Despite some initial disappointment with a leached-out section of the vein, the hard work pays off: we find the classic tellurium band and, ultimately, visible gold on the hanging wall side of the slick!

This drift is fighting us every step of the way, but the team’s commitment and the discovery of gold make it all worth it. Join the adventure as we continue to push deeper into this historic part of the mine!

A huge thank you to Harry, Pete, and Elliot for their hard work this season!
