In a recent Show Me The Crypto appearance, renowned Bitcoin Cash advocate and early Bitcoin investor Roger Ver expressed his admiration for Ethereum, asserting that it will play a pivotal role in driving worldwide cryptocurrency adoption.
Ver’s endorsement of Ethereum aligns with the sentiments shared by the hosts of the YouTube show, particularly regarding the Ethereum ecosystem’s innovations, such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Acknowledging that Ethereum does not currently possess the largest market capitalization compared to Bitcoin, Ver emphasized that Ethereum is the front-runner in spearheading the global adoption of cryptocurrencies.
While acknowledging Ethereum’s scaling challenges, he downplayed their severity by highlighting the prevalence of EVM-compatible blockchains that can alleviate the strain on the main chain.
Ver commended Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin for his visionary leadership and role in shaping the project into what it is today. While accounts of Ethereum’s creation often focus on Buterin’s realization that Bitcoin was ill-suited for his envisioned functionalities, including smart contracts and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), Ver added perspective to the story.
He explained that Ethereum arose from a “scaling civil war” that transpired when Buterin and Bitcoin developers disagreed on the future direction of Bitcoin.
According to Ver, Buterin’s aspirations for Bitcoin surpassed its potential as a store of value and medium of exchange. However, many Bitcoin developers resisted this notion, leading to conflicts and an inability to find common ground. Consequently, Buterin departed from Bitcoin, taking his innovative ideas to build Ethereum, representing a missed opportunity for Bitcoin.
“All of that would have been built on top of Bitcoin if not for the scaling civil war. These Bitcoin developers hate Vitalik, and they drove him from the project to create Ethereum and more power,” Ver explained.
Ver expressed gratitude towards Buterin, acknowledging his pivotal role in propelling humanity forward into the future and making the world better. He attributed Buterin’s contributions to pushing the boundaries of innovation and technological advancement in cryptocurrencies.
