In this episode, we tackle multiple strategic blasts:
The Big Waste Shot: Watch as Pete takes on his first-ever blast! We set a critical “waste shot” to shape the stope, leaving a vital pillar for mine safety. The whole crew holds their breath as the charge goes offโyou don’t want to miss the intense BOOM and the reveal the next day!
Drilling Through Adversity: We hit a snag when a drill bit breaks off inside the hole, requiring some clever “extraction method” to get back on track.
Shooting the Ore: Finally, the moment we’ve been waiting for! We drill and load a significant bench of high-grade ore with Elliot setting off his first blast. The result is a beautiful, perfect, clean break between the valuable ore and the waste rock.
We also take a moment to appreciate the old-timers and their incredible work, demonstrating what the mine would have looked like with nothing but a candle for light.
Most importantly, we get a close look at the precious material weโre pulling out, identifying the tell-tale signs of high-grade gold and tellurides right along the slip face of the vein. We’re filling bags with both coarse and fine ore, getting ready to haul it all to the mill!
