I’ve teamed up with Chris Robak from Silver Cove to open Canada’s first and only Peridot gemstone mine! While we work through the permitting process to bring in large-scale mining equipment, I’m running small-scale tests to fine-tune our gem recovery methods.
In this video, I’m testing our crushed basalt in a mineral jig to see if the slight difference in specific gravity between basalt and Peridot is enough to separate the gems from their host rock.
Peridot is a gem-quality Olivine crystal, prized for its vibrant green color and volcanic origin — and we’re about to find out just how much of it is hidden in this basalt deposit!
A huge thank you to:
River Dance Gold Mining for supplying the mineral jig
Jason from Mount Baker Mining and Metals for doing such a perfect job crushing the basalt
Join me as we take another exciting step toward uncovering Canada’s hidden Peridot treasures!
