Along with the Contributor Program, Reddit has announced an update to Reddit Gold – a paid feature that allows users to personalize their profiles.
American social news website and forum Reddit has announced a new program where qualifying users can be rewarded with money for their contributions. Within the Contributor Program, qualifying Redditors, including mods, can receive fiat money for the content they share on Reddit. The content will be estimated based on the karma and gold they’ve been given.
To take part in the program, contributors must be over 18 and reside in the US, their accounts must be more than 30 days old. If eligible, contributors have to go through a verification process, and once verified, they can enroll in the program. Redditors give gold to posts, comments, or other contributions they find worthy, with top contributors making top dollar. The more karma and gold contributors earn, the more money they can receive.
Reddit has also instructed users on how to enter:
“On mobile, tap your avatar in the top-right corner to open the side-drawer. On reddit.com, click on your username in the top right corner for the drop-down to appear. You’ll see a tab for the Contributor Program with a wallet icon next to it. Select this to open the marketing page. If you’re eligible, the Get Verified to Start Earning button will be clickable.”
Payments will be made on a monthly basis, with the calculations based on the amount of karma earned and gold received on their eligible contributions.
Reddit Gold Update
Along with the Contributor Program, Reddit has announced an update to Reddit Gold – a paid feature that allows users to personalize their Reddit profiles and make the Reddit experience better.
Reddit Gold was rolled out back in 2010 and has undergone multiple changes since its launch. Initially, it was an additional feature you pay for that lasts for a month and gives you how your avatar’s karma is formed and the comments you read, as well as allows you to get rid of ads and protects you from subreddits. Until July 2023, Reddit Gold provided a means for users to award their favorite creators in the app. But in July, Reddit removed the feature, promising to come up with a substitution. Now, this substitution is the Contributor Program.
Meanwhile, for Reddit Gold, the experience of awarding content is now simplified. To buy and award with gold (or “gild”), Redditors can long press the upvote icon on mobile (or hover over it on desktop) directly within the post or comment they want to reward.
Reddit will offer a range of six gold awarding options, starting at $1.99 for one gold, and up to $49.00 for 25 gold. Gold will start appearing today and initially be available on eligible content on Reddit native mobile apps, in select communities, and will expand to additional communities in the coming weeks.
