Dropbox Ready to Soar After Drastic $600 Million Repurchase Plan: Analysts
Dropbox delivered a strong fiscal fourth quarter. The company has authorized a $600 million stock repurchasing program. Analysts believe DBX must recover $21 to have a shot at starting a bull run. Dropbox’s stock (NASDAQ: DBX) has been languishing in bear territory since August 2018. From that point, DBX lost nearly half of its value in a little over a year. The name plunged to an all-time low of $16.08 in December. It appears that the San Francisco-based company is finally turning a corner. Dropbox recently made a major acquisition…
Binance and Others Are Rushing to Provide Stablecoins to Nigerian Crypto Users
The Nigerian cryptocurrency market may be on the verge of a local bull run, thanks to newly popularized avenues to the global market. Emmanuel Babalola, Binance’s business manager in Nigeria, said he’s seen a 50 percent increase in signups so far in 2020, leading to “thousands” of new Binance users in Nigeria. Roughly 300 people signed up for a corresponding “masterclass” in Lagos in January, teaching users how to set up their own personal wallets and experiment with margin-trading strategies. There was so much demand for the six-hour class that…
Dow Wobbles as Coronavirus Clobbers Stock Market Earnings Forecasts
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) declined on Friday, setting the index up to record a weekly loss. Damage from the coronavirus outbreak prompted another Dow 30 component to cut its earnings guidance. The infection toll continues to mount outside of China, especially in South Korea and Japan. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) fell for a second consecutive day on Friday after one of its “safety stocks” warned that the coronavirus outbreak had put a dent in its earnings guidance. St. Louis Federal Reserve President James Bullard appeared on…
JPEG on the Blockchain: Image Format Creator Believes Tech Can Fight Copyright Theft
The organization that created the popular JPEG picture format believes blockchain could be used to verify images as well as flag fakes and image theft. The Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) said blockchain has “great potential” as the basis of a system that would use a combination of encryption, hash signatures and watermarking in an image’s metadata to protect copyright, Digital Trends reported Thursday. The system could have advantages over existing verification models, JPEG said at a recent meeting in Sydney, Australia. Instead of signing up for a particular program,…

The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) claims that it has never approved major cryptocurrency exchange Binance to operate in the country. On Feb. 21, the MFSA issued a public statement, stating that Binance “is not authorized by the MFSA to operate in the crypto currency sphere.” The agency outlined that recent media reports referred to Binance incorrectly as a “Malta-based cryptocurrency firm,” while the exchange “may not fall within the realm of regulatory oversight.” While major local publications like Malta Today have been referring to Binance as a Malta-regulated crypto…
Messi Wants World-Beater Neymar. Barcelona Buy a Middlesborough Flop.
It’s another weird week in Barcelona. Messi wants to stay, but he’s looking for changes at the club. Club brings in an ex-Middlesborough flop after being short on attacking options. It’s hard to know what’s going on at Barcelona these days. The week started with the news that the club directors employ an Argentinian firm to attack its own players over social media. Lionel Messi then gave an extensive interview in which he called this news “weird”. And the week ended with the signing of Martin Braithwaite. An ex-Middlesborough flop…

Raising awareness of crypto-related risks The FSMA further warned that the list is based on customer reports and the agency’s own findings, meaning that it does…
The Domain Startups Building an Uncensorable Internet on Top of Ethereum
Ethereum developers are leveraging blockchain’s censorship-resistant nature to launch the next iteration of the internet, Web 3.0. Last weekend at ETHDenver – one of the conference circuit’s top gatherings of ethereum coders – decentralized internet alternatives were on display, including Ethereum Name Service (ENS), Unstoppable Domains and UniLogin. Launched in 2017 and 2018, respectively, ENS and Unstoppable Domains are confronting the hierarchical nature of the internet stack and the Domain Name System (DNS) by building out a peer-to-peer (P2P) internet alternative. Meanwhile, UniLogin provides a portal to Web 3.0 projects…
