38 Next-Gen PS5 Games are Finally Revealed – Here are Our 5 Favorites

  • 38 confirmed titles are heading to Sony’s next-gen PS5 console.
  • We’ve compiled a list of the five most eye-catching games.
  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Battlefield 6, Starfield, and more.

Ahead of the rumored PS5 event early next month, the latest issue of the UK-based Official PlayStation Magazine features a comprehensive list of the 38 confirmed games heading to the console.

Although the list doesn’t provide any eye-popping revelations or surprise announcements, there’s a lot to be said for seeing the full, currently-known slate of PS5 games. Anyone worried about a drought of games when the console launches can rest easy – there’s sure to be something that tickles your fancy.

With that said, the list features some filler (yet more annual sports franchises) as well as existing games making the jump to the next-gen (Warframe, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite).

In that spirit, here are five standout PS5 games from the 38 confirmed upcoming release.

Starfield

Bethesda needs a win after the disastrous Fallout 76. The developer has done much to redress the beleaguered survival title with recent updates, but there’s a sense it needs a big stand out hit to convince fans that it still has the chops to deliver.

As a sci-fi RPG, Starfield is brand new territory ideally suited to Bethesda’s brand of expansive, lore-rich games. It’s still a long away off by all accounts, and we know very little about the nitty-gritty of the game, but Starfield could see Bethesda return to what it does best.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Setting aside the gameplay reveal controversy and the disappointing news of 4k 30 FPS performance on Xbox Series X (presumably PS5 as well), Assassin’s Creed Valhalla stands as the first standout AAA to usher in the next-gen.

Love it or hate it, Assassin’s Creed is a gaming institution, and there’s certainly a lot of excitement around what Ubisoft is cooking up this time around.

The premise is an enticing one – gallivanting across verdant English countryside delivering swift stealthy – and not so stealthy – Viking justice.

Although we’ve yet to see proper gameplay, we can more or less guarantee this one will be on the money if we use Origins and Odyssey as a benchmark.

Battlefield 6

Battlefield 6 will be about redemption. 2018’s Battlefield 5 was a mess. We’re being kind with that description.

EA and DICE will be chomping at the bit to return to the glory days of the franchise. There’s also stiff competition from Activision and the dominant duo of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone.

A PlayStation 5 facelift with some extra time to percolate should see Battlefield 6 make quite a splash when it lands next year.

Gods & Monsters

This one makes the list for sheer intrigue alone. Gods & Monsters remains an enigma – a painterly-styled shift away from Ubisoft’s routine big-budget releases and by far the developer’s most exciting upcoming game. We know very little about the project other than a vague description courtesy of Ubisoft. It reads:

From the creators of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey comes a storybook adventure set on an island full of mythical monsters. Save the Greek gods by taking on tricky challenges, dangerous dungeons, and heroic trials.

It will be interesting to see how Ubisoft leverages its financial might and development know-how for a focused, smaller-scale project boosted by the PS5’s promised generational leap.

Godfall

Announced as the first confirmed PlayStation 5 game, Godfall has rustled up quite a lot of excitement. The jury’s still out about whether that’s due to timing or what could be a stellar introduction to the next generation.

Channeling Gearbox’s signature looter shooter pedigree with a splash of Diablo-style hack and slash, Godfall promises a lot, but the question is whether it can deliver? Still, Godfall exudes potential and for that reason alone is worth keeping tabs on.
