With the Chinese authorities bent on ensuring a crypto-free country, the self-proclaimed crypto soldier, John McAfee, has found a softer way to reach out to Chinese cryptocurrency investors using a social media platform- Weibo.
This becomes the first time McAfee joins the social media platform which can be thought of as the Chinese version of Twitter and which has more than 400 million active users on a monthly basis making it the leading social media network in China.
“I am joining China’s version of Twitter @SinaWeiboI and look forward to making Chinese friends. This would not be possible without @_blockandchain_ and colleagues. Thank you Mia!” said McAfee on a twitter post.
Apart from joining Weibo, McAfee will be operating a news website dedicated to bringing updated news of what’s happening in the cryptocurrency arena. The website is called McAfeeMarketNews.com.
Although where the softer way to reach out to Chinese cryptocurrency investors will lead is just a speculation, for now, there is one thing which is for sure. If McAfee manages to draw the kind of attention and following he has on platforms like Twitter, then his presence on Weibo will be felt. Attracting both enemies and friends along the way.
Away from McAfee and Weibo, Elon Musk has again found himself in the hands of bullies, Twitter hackers. This time, his account was hacked with the hackers promising that Musk is giving away free cryptos.
This becomes one of many cases of social media accounts of influential people like Donald Trump and Vitalik Buterin falling into the hands of hackers/impersonators who promise free cryptocurrencies. Twitter has by far been the preferred platform for this hackers to masquerade as the real account owner in some cases defrauding people of their hard-earned digital coins.
