Here I show the basics of the Coinbase Pro API with Python for algorithmic trading. I’m using third-party library “cbpro” to connect. This library allows us to control different aspects of our Coinbase Pro accounts programmatically, such as checking account balances, connecting to live data feeds and placing a market order, all from a Jupyter notebook and in a few lines of code.
Remember to use the Sandbox site and not the real one until you are ready to trade, and that will be your own responsibility. Sign up for a Coinbase account with my referral link here:
I will post a follow up video shortly to build on the work done here. In the next part I will be mainly focusing on how to handle the data from the live feed.
Admittedly, this video does not actually show algo-trading. It is still manual trading using the API, but I believe it is important to get a good grasp of what the API can do first, and that’s why I’m starting from the basics.
