HODL or Cling? Bitcoin Car Talk Finds Common Ground
Undeterred and cradling a cherished, framed copy of Murad Mahmudov’s “Lindy Effect” Bitcoin chart, Mike tackles author David Gerard, author of Attack of the 50-Foot Blockchain. Although unable to convince the famed blockchain skeptic that HODL is the correct path to follow in life, Mike and David eventually find some common ground. What is it? Watch the video to find out.
Who Is David Gerard?
David Gerard earned his notoriety in the Bitcoin world with his book, published in July 2017. Attack of the 50-Foot Blockchain, described by the BBC as “a very convincing takedown of the whole phenomenon”, takes aim at everything from bitcoin mining to the “religious fundamentalism” that permeates crypto conversation. He’s not a huge fan of ICOs either, describing them as “unregulated penny stock offerings whose fine print literally states that you are buying nothing of any value”.
In the words of Donald Rumsfeld after a withering verbal assault from Hillary Clinton: “My goodness”.
Let’s be honest, 2017 was probably the absolute worst time to release an anti-Bitcoin book — but life comes at you fast in crypto, and whether Gerard was right or wrong may depend on what day of the week it is.
