Rockstar Leak Teases the Next-Gen Remake You’re Craving

  • A new leak claims Rockstar Games is gearing up to release what sounds like a phenomenal remake of 2010’s Red Dead Redemption.
  • Rockstar is allegedly remaking the original for the next-gen with an engine overhaul, new missions, and new features borrowed from RDR2.
  • The leak suggests Rockstar plans to announce the game soon with an eye on a 2021 launch.

Forget about GTA 6. A fresh leak from an anonymous source suggests the next big release coming from the Rockstar Games monolith is a Red Dead Redemption remake for PC and next-gen consoles. And boy, does it promise to deliver a game that should please newcomers and veterans alike.

Anonymous Leak Teases Red Dead Redemption Remake

According to the leak, we’re talking 2010’s Red Dead Redemption in Red Dead Redemption 2’s engine – a full standalone remake rather than a run-of-the-mill remaster or cash-grab DLC. Think a Shadow of the Colossus-style project.

The leak implies that Rockstar is borrowing features from Red Dead Redemption 2. These include improved side activities such as hunting and fishing – with mechanics presumably similar to the ultra-realistic RDR 2 – and brand new missions.

Red Dead’s highly enjoyable zombie-themed Undead Nightmare standalone expansion will feature as well.

Rockstar Games is allegedly drafting in several voice actors from the original to reprise their roles and record new lines of dialogue. Among them is Rob Wiethoff, who’ll once again deliver the iconic guttural twang of protagonist John Marston.

A Winning Formula Returns(?)

All the usual caveats about anonymous leaks still apply. But if we take it at face value, such a remake has the makings of a hit.

The original already packs enough charm, narrative intrigue, and immersive gameplay that it’s often listed among the best games ever made.

A remake along the lines of the anonymous leak would take that winning formula and pump in some next-gen steroids, massive visual improvements, and new content curated by Rockstar.

A modern take on Red Dead Redemption harnessing the graphical promise of the PS5 and Xbox Series X and padded out by the expertise Rockstar has amassed in the decade since the original – it’s tantalizing stuff.

Furthermore, there’s an appetite for a remake – or at the very least, more from the Red Dead IP – among gamers. Enough time has passed since the original to warrant a replay, especially as a chronological continuation of Red Dead Redemption 2, which is effectively a prequel.

There’s also the added appeal of PC players finally getting to experience the game. A port of the original never saw the light of day despite numerous rumors.

Easing The Wait For GTA 6

With GTA 6 reportedly years away, a Red Dead Redemption remake is the silver lining we’ve been waiting for. | Source: Rockstar Games

If the leak is indeed genuine, then a remake sounds like an ideal way to ease the wait for GTA 6. The next Grand Theft Auto title is reportedly still years away.

The leaker claims that Rockstar plans to announce the Red Dead Redemption remake soon with an eye on a launch in Q1 or Q2 2021. The game is allegedly approaching the late stages of development, with Rockstar India at the helm of the project.

It’s worth noting that the leak comes from the 4chan forums and needs handling with salt-dusted gloves as a consequence.

Nevertheless, there’s nothing wrong with entertaining the notion of a remake, especially one that sounds so ridiculously exciting.
