Sellers Rack Up $4.8B in Global Sales Over Holiday Weekend

Retail giant Amazon increases its sales by over 60% from the past year during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday period.

On Tuesday, Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN) revealed that the independent businesses, both small and medium-sized, had surpassed $4.8 billion in worldwide sales. Specifically, during this holiday season, over 71,000 small- and medium-sized businesses globally had made sales worth more than $100,000. Interestingly, an average of 9500 products was sold every minute during this holiday season.

Early Deals Lead to Record-Breaking Demands

In the US, Black Friday-worthy deals started dropping on October 15. From there, the Holiday Dash deals event continued through Black Friday and Cyber Monday, giving shoppers awesome offers.

During this season, Amazon has experienced a record-breaking demand emanating from customers within the US and elsewhere in the world. The year has been so tough for many, but the 2020 holiday season appears to be a bit different. Customers have still found new ways to bring joy to themselves by celebrating some of their holiday traditions.

Unlike other years, Amazon kicked off the holiday season earlier with deals beginning in October just after Prime Day ended. The motive was to be more flexible and to help customers save more time during this unusual time.

After the remarkable performance, the company has thanked customers worldwide for their contribution to the holiday shopping season’s success. Amazon Worldwide Consumer CEO Jeff Wilke said:

“Thank you to our customers, employees, and selling partners around the world for making this our biggest holiday season to date, and for everything you’re doing to support our communities and each other now and throughout the year.”

Big Savings and Convenience Attracts Millions of Customers

Customers who prefer safety, savings and convenience are the ones that have taken advantage of most of the offers availed to them. More shoppers than before have shopped early in an effort to save big on gifts and seasonal items, thereby supporting small- and medium-sized businesses.

All-new Echo Dot, REVLON One-Step Hair Dryer and Barack Obama’s “A Promised Land” are some of the best-sellers so far during this season. Top categories that shopped during the period include beauty, fashion and home, while the top trends featured in the US were cozy comfort, nesting at home, and self-care.

“In a holiday season unlike any other, it’s clear that customers still want great deals on gifts for their loved ones or a little something extra for themselves, and we’re glad to help deliver smiles throughout the season,” Wilke said after assessing the events that transpired during the shopping season.

Amazon Is Investing Heavily in Product Delivery to Boost Sales

Alexa was helpful as it supported millions of customers to find great deals, add products to their shopping lists, buy items as well as answer various product questions making the Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping experience easy. Customers seemed to have utilized Alexa more to connect with their family and friends this Thanksgiving weekend than the previous ones, thereby getting in the holiday spirit earlier than ever. Hundreds of thousands of Amazon employees and other partners have effortlessly worked together to enable customers to get fast and convenient delivery options.

Over the last several months, Amazon implemented over 150 new process improvements and safety measures. In addition, the company expects to invest approximately $10 billion in 2020 towards efforts of delivering products to customers and maintaining employees’ safety.
