Ethereum Core Devs Agree to ProgPoW Hard Fork. What Comes Next?

Ethereum Core Devs Agree to ProgPoW Hard Fork. What Comes Next? January 15, 2019 by Tyson O’Ham On the latest Ethereum Core Dev call, an EIP to switch Proof of Work to ProgPoW was approved. The goal of forking to a different PoW algorithm is to avoid the ethash ASIC manufacture from centralizing mining efforts, but what other implications will the move have? ETH Dev Suggests Moving to ‘ASIC-Friendly Algorithm’ After ProgPoW Decision

An Ethereum (ETH) code contributor has suggested that Ethereum developers ‘embrace’ specialized mining hardware (ASICs) in a reply on Ethereum developer forum Ethereum Magicians, Jan. 7. As Cointelegraph reported last week, Ethereum core developers have tentatively decided to implement a new proof-of-work (PoW) algorithm, dubbed ProgPoW, which would decrease the efficiency divide between ASICs and GPUs, while rendering current Ethereum ASICs obsolete. According to another developer on Ethereum Magicians, David Vorick, ProgPoW would favor larger ASIC producers because the more complex hardware needed would exacerbate the economies of scale involved.…

Ahead of Ethereum Constantinople Update, Community Eyes ProgPoW

Ahead of Ethereum Constantinople Update, Community Eyes ProgPoW January 5, 2019 by William Peaster In the 52nd Ethereum Core developer meeting, the blockchain’s builders agreed to begin tests on shifting Ethereum’s proof-of-work algorithm from Ethash to ProgPoW, an ASIC-resistant algorithm. That development comes just days ahead of  Ethereum’s long-awaited Constantinople update, set for January 16th.   Also read: DX.Exchange Is Tokenizing Major U.S. Stocks This Month Subscribe to the Bitsonline YouTube channel for great videos featuring industry insiders & experts Ethereum Looks to ProgPoW to Level the Playing Field for GPU Miners Until PoS…
