Taylor Swift Finds Her Voice While These ‘Woke’ Celebs Are Upsettingly Silent

  • Taylor Swift sent a fiery tweet at Donald Trump today.
  • She called out his violent reaction to the Greg Lloyd protests.
  • While she’s praised for using her platform, what celebrities have still said nothing?

Donald Trump just got picked on by someone his own size. Taylor Swift – one of the few people with more Twitter followers than the president – just called him out on Twitter.

Bravo to Taylor Swift. She’s finally using her giant platform to speak truth to power and give a voice to the voiceless.

I wonder if Donald Trump is angrier at Taylor Swift’s words or the fact that she has more retweets than him. | Source: Twitter

This isn’t a time for celebrities to remain quiet, and yet, some of them are depressingly absent from the conversation. Let’s take a look at the weakest voices in the bunch.

Taylor Swift Shows Her Nasty Side

Protestors in Minneapolis and several other cities have been rioting and looting for days. There’s a growing faction of Americans who are trying to toe the line between expressing remorse of Greg Lloyd’s murder while condemning the protestors’ actions.

Donald Trump was one of those people until he took it one step further by “glorifying violence.” Twitter agreed, which is why they tagged his tweet as a violation.

No worries, he just went over to the White House account and tried to tweet it from there (where it was tagged, again.)

You can see that he calls the protestors “THUGS” and added, “when the looting starts, the shooting starts!” That phrase was first invoked in 1967 by a police chief with a “long history of bigotry.”

Well, that was enough to awaken the beast in Taylor Swift. She tweeted out a response to her 86 million followers (which is six million more than Trump’s following, for good measure), and made her political and cultural stance crystal clear. She ended by telling Trump, “we will vote you out in November.”

Swift ruffled some feathers. She’s a pop-country crossover star who undoubtedly has a massive following in rural red states across America. But she spoke up anyway because the communities in pain need a bigger voice.

But there’s plenty of celebrities who pretend to be ‘woke’ who are safely watching this play out from the sidelines.

These People Need to Find Their Voices – And Find It Soon

Some people argue that the systemic oppression in this country will not end until the people with the most privilege speak up.

That is, famous white men.

Step it up, Conan!

Sadly, some of television’s most prominent voices are taking time during this revolution to promote themselves.

Check out Conan O’Brien’s recent feed:

During the height of the protests, Conan O’Brien posted three dad jokes and a video of himself.

Maybe he’s attempting to show dissent with his Trump joke, but it’s easy pickings. Late-night hosts have been making these jokes for years.

How about Taylor Swift’s contemporary, Justin Beiber?

His singing style, fashion style, and entire career wouldn’t exist without black culture. And yet, if you scan his Twitter feed, it’s nothing but posts promoting his new single “Stuck With U.” We might not be stuck with you much longer.

At least Miley Cyrus is taking a stand. Justin Timberlake is too.

Step it up, Kylie!

How about Kylie Jenner? She’s raising a child who might someday be forced to deal with these issues. What’s she saying?

“Buy my sunscreen!”

Even Kim Kardashian took time between pumping her clothing line to acknowledge Greg Lloyd.

The list goes on and on. James Corden is just promoting terrible CBS content. Even woke liberal superhero Stephen Colbert has yet to voice support for the people. He just congratulated a white guy in space.

All of these celebrities posture like they’re against oppression and on the right side of history. But when the president attacks and bullies an entire culture in mourning, they’re nowhere to be found.

Why? Because they might lose some followers. It’s disgusting.

Put your brand on the line. Put your money on the line. And at least pretend to be the people you play on TV.
