The PS5 Reveal Event Won’t Answer Your Biggest Questions

  • After announcing its June 4 PS5 reveal event, Sony teases that it will have many more announcements to make.
  • This suggests that fans are unlikely to get all of the answers to their biggest PS5 questions the first time around.
  • Fans have been asking Sony to confirm the PS5’s release date and price.

On Friday, Sony finally confirmed that it would be holding a PS5 reveal event on June 4, 2020. The event will give fans a look at several PS5 games, with launch titles and PS5 exclusives being expected.

More Questions Than Answers?

The event is unlikely to answer fans’ biggest questions, suggests a post on the PlayStation Blog. In the post, Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan confirmed that the event is “part of our series of PS5 updates” and that “after next week’s showcase, we will still have much to share with you.”

Sony may well reveal one of the biggest things about the PS5, its design, before or during the event. The console is heading into production, maximizing the likelihood of leaks. That means Sony will want to get on top of that by showing official images. Although that’s a welcoming gesture for fans, it’ll still leave many things unanswered.

Price Tag: A Big Unknown

One of the biggest questions that fans have is of the PS5’s price. Rumors that the PS5 will be more expensive than the Xbox Series X have been swirling from the jump.

There was also a Bloomberg report that suggested that the PS5 would be in limited supply at launch, as Sony expects a higher price to lead to lower demand.

Sony may be trying to goad Microsoft into revealing the Xbox Series X price first. Speaking to Geoff Keighley, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter suggested that Microsoft wants Sony to announce the PS5 price first so that it can undercut it by making the Xbox Series X cheaper.

Next, there’s the issue of the release date. The PS5 will be available globally at launch, meaning that it will not be available later in some regions than others. But fans don’t know when this release will be, as Sony has only said that the PS5 will launch in holiday 2020.
