Walmart to start using blockchain technology with robotics
Wallmart Applied for a patent that will allow the in-field authentication of robots. Walmart is an American multinational retail corporation. This information was provided through the publishing of a US Patent & Trademark Office. The patent was submitted to the city of Bentonville Arizona. In the document was stated that:
“ The first authentication signal includes a first Blockchain key and the second authentication signal includes a second blockchain key, the first and second blockchain keys are configured to facilitate confirming the identity of the first mobile autonomous electronic device and the identity of the second mobile autonomous electronic device “
In the document, there was also a mention of “The first mobile autonomous electronic devices being configured to access delivery information from a distributed blockchain database, in response to confirming the identity of the second mobile autonomous electronic device”
The patent mentions the plans for Walmart to use autonomous robots to be able to make deliveries, which should work out more efficiently and effectively. This will put Walmart in competition with other wholesale companies like Amazon in the retail network sector.
Through the usage of this system, it will make Walmart susceptible to the hacking of the Robots and computers. This is where a Blockchain or distributed ledger technology comes in handy. Keeping transactions safe from any unwanted threat.

Within the document is also stated that “In some embodiments of described above, Blockchain technology may be utilized to record authentication signals and identification information to facilitate or resulting from in-field authentication between autonomous electronic devices. One or more of the autonomous electronic devices described herein may comprise of nodes in a distributed Blockchain system storing a copy of the Blockchain record.”
Walmart has applied previously for patents that have involved the use of Blockchain systems. This patent was looking at the possibility of ensuring the locker space for packages would be automatically reserved if there was enough space for a delivery to be made to a customer.
This is a prime example of a use case of Artificial intelligence and the power of the Blockchain technology working together to deliver massive benefits to society. Robots like drones are some of the leading standards for companies to start delivering products and services. Development in this area is moving fast and will make a huge impact on global retail commerce with the disruptive power of the Blockchain technology.
