Four members of the United States Congress are requesting Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair Gary Gensler “immediately” approve the listing of spot Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded funds, or ETFs. In a Sept. 26 letter to Gensler, U.S. Representatives Mike Flood, Wiley Nickel, Tom Emmer and Ritchie Torres claimed the SEC was “discriminat[ing] against spot bitcoin exchange traded products”, citing the legal precedent set by Grayscale Investments in winning a review of its own ETF offering. Celsius Creditors Approve Reorganization Plan, Which May Return Up to 85% Funds

The overwhelming vote marks another step towards the end of Celsius’ bankruptcy and the return of funds to customers. Celsius filed for bankruptcy in July last year as the crypto winter set in and its Chief Executive Officer Alex Mashinsky resigned as CEO in September 2022. European lawmakers approve crypto tax regulatory initiative

European lawmakers overwhelmingly approved the DAC8 directive, empowering tax authorities to oversee and regulate cryptocurrency transactions within the EU. On Sept. 13, the proposal got 535 member votes in favor, only 57 against, and 60 abstentions. The DAC8 will enable tax authorities to monitor and regulate all cryptocurrency transactions conducted by individuals and companies within the European Union.
